Baton Rouge, the state capital of Louisiana, and the country seat of Baton Rouge Parish, situated on the Mississippi River in the heart of the state. The Baton Rouge was founded in 1719 and incorporated in 1817 and has a total land area of 79.1 square miles, of which 76.8 square mile of it is land, 2.2 square mile is water and elevated of 83 feet above sea level. The metropolitan of Baton Rouge has been cited as one of the faster growing areas in the U.S. with 770,000 in 2008 and has proven to be one of the fastest growing cities in the South, in terms of technology. It is also the home of two great universities the Louisiana State University and Southern University that have a world-class biomedical research facility.
